How to Find the Perfect Speaker for Your Webinar
Webinars can be a great way to train your organization without high travel costs and excessive interruption to productivity. You can easily record a webinar for viewing later and you can incorporate other digital learning techniques to make sure your audience absorbed the material.
But how do you find the right speaker to present on your webinar? Make sure you incorporate these three points when you are searching for the perfect speaker.
#1. Make sure they have experience presenting on a webinar.
Webinars can be a tricky medium. There can be limited audience feedback so a speaker needs to be seasoned at keeping their energy up and know how to effectively pace their talk. You also want to make sure they are familiar with the technology.
If they have presented on many webinars and aren’t familiar with your exact webinar platform, that isn’t a show-stopper since many webinar platforms have similarities. But they should be familiar with how the technology runs. It’s a good idea to have a practice session so you can run through the sequence of events and determine who will be controlling the slides and presentation.
#2. Make sure they are subject matter experts.
Your presenter should be an expert in their field in the topic they are presenting. They should provide industry examples which will make the presentation much richer than if they have a top-level view of the material. Get references from the speakers and take a look at their recommendations. You can easily view their Recommendations on their LinkedIn profile or they may have some on their website.
You also should take a look at any published works as well as their own blog to get a feel for their style and knowledge. If they are going to be answering questions at the end of the webinar, you want them to be able to handle a wide range of questions from your audience.
#3. Take a look at some of their past speeches and talks.
Most speakers will have some examples on their site of how they speak in front of a live audience. They may even have a YouTube channel where you can see examples of their training. This can be a great way to see how they will speak on your webinar since YouTube videos can be a similar medium to webinars. Some speakers will have a link to their YouTube channel or embedded videos on their website. If they don’t have this on their website, ask for a sample directly from the speaker.
Hosting a large event is a great way to network in person, but when that isn’t possible, webinars can be an effective way to get the necessary knowledge to your organization quickly.
